agatha christie...

well, currently i am reading The Body in The Library by Agatha Christie and i tell you she is a wonderful writer. my school library has about 30 of her books or more and i have read almost 20 of them. last year i was addicted to her. i just could not stop reading her books but later on, i could guess the villain so i sort of stopped and went into Jodi Picoult. After the break, i am totally dumbfounded by her plot and the way she writes. she is truly the queen of crime.

i truly think the best book she has ever written is And Then There Were None. it was such a well crafted plot and OMG, it was just so intense and mysterious. seriously one of the best books in fiction. if you have not read it, awww, so sad. well you should.

the best thing about her is that, she could link every tiny detail with the story and then make it really really believable. amazing really, the way she does it is really a magic trick. i do not know...i mean seriously. her train of thoughts, wow......i am so impressed. sadly i don't own any of her books. i have searched though, in MPH and Popular but there was no trace of Agatha.

anyways, do you have any author that you personally like?? tell me about him or her.

Life of Imogene...

the rustling of spring leaves slapped me awake from my sleep of serenity.

“its day already?”

within a fragment of a second, i sprung back on to my heels. i ignored the essence of freshness lingering in the air. my eyes searched for any movement in the misty woods.

“at least no one saw me”

i closed my eyes, relieved that i remained as a myth. the morning air made my wings slowly creep out of their hide out, my back.

as my fragile treasures came out, i began to shrink to my original size. ahhhhh. my small slender self again. the well-coiffed bun that was my hair broke loose, and a sea of blond strands flooded in.

my long red skirt, wet from the drizzle yesterday night, swirled as i did a turn en pointe. i was glad that the secret i lived with had not been revealed.

it is not easy being me. in the day a fairy and at night a human. the life of a creature which doesn’t exist for the ever-so they say-filled minds of humans.

my wings fluttered into action and i felt a surge of excitement. i do it everyday but it is never the same. never boring. and never found out.

a smile flashed it’s way onto my face, as rays of the golden shimmering sun rushed past me. the sun, my day companion with whom i play hide and seek with. he is a very cunning player, though. he usually hides behind the clouds just to make me look harder. the word DULL is nonexistent in his dictionary. always radiant and cheerful.

i looked up at him. it must be hard for him too, i figured .in the day he is ‘the mighty Sun’ but at night he is just the moon. like me he has two personalities. two masks to wear. two faces. i wonder if it's as difficult for him as it is for me. an epiphany triggered from within me. i realised humans don't exist UP-THERE. it must be easy for him. he doesn't have to hide whereas i......
a shimmering ray focused on me. it was my shining moment. my body glimmered with glitter. that always happened. every time sunlight touches me i begin to shine a diamond's shine. clears out the question why i have to hide in the woods day time, doesn't it?

he wanted to play. i knew it. the way he focused his ray onto me. ahhh, he always does that.

“fine, lets play, ” i whispered.

i fluttered into the woods. The End.

Oops did i forget to introduce myself. Hi i am Imogene.

i guess i created this new character Imogene. and i will be writing fragments of her life in this blog. feel free to follow. this blog has officially been set aside for books and novels, and Life of Imogene.

MPH story writing competition......

yes, i am entering the competition. i just hope that i can finish my story before the dateline.

sorry, for being a lousy blogger and not updating. technically this blog is only for book reviews and thoughts on BOOKS (and authors). i have not finished reading My Sister's Keeper yet (pg 300). i know i am slow. i just had some (meaning quite a lot) of work to be done in school and the monthly tests.....its too lame to explain these things.

so currently i am having this addiction to Preeta Samarasan's style of writing. (yes it is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S). i went gaga over her novel Evening is The Whole Day, which can be bought in all major bookstores. but her short stories are the ones that i feel have a closer-to-home feel. i don't know how she does it but she is amazing. her sentences are crafted to perfection with similes and personifications. OMG. she is so good. you can find links to her published short stories at her website http://preetasamarasan.com/ .

seriously if you have time, please read her short fictions (they are not really short but when you read it you will not notice the length of the story, thats the mark of an amazing writer.)

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult is amazing. just when i thought, i had figured her plot out, she manages to sneak in a surprise.

lacy houghton is a midwife, who brings lives into the world. she did not expect her son to take them away. but that's exactly what he did. one morning, peter houghton, a prey in the eyes of bullies, walked into his high school with guns instead of books and he killed ten people.

along with the rest of the shocked and grief-stricken town, Lacy is left wondering when her shy 17 year old boy turned into a monster. and was it her fault?

this book is really addictive. once you start reading it, you cannot stop. believe me. i read finish this book while having high fever. well, this is the first book themed school shooting that i have read. i don't really know whether there are other books but if they are anything like this, i would definitely read them. the way Jodi Picoult narrates the story is superb. it keeps jolting our curiousity nerves.

she keeps revealing incidents that might turn the flow of events upside down. i get really excited over books that have surprise endings, and this is one book which i love the ending. it was really unexpected. the words, sentences, phrases, everything is lovely. i love the way she writes and her tone in this novel.
this is my second read in the Jodi Picoult's collection and it excites me to read her other novels. any suggestions?

The whiTe TiGeR by Aravind Adiga

well, this book is the best deal (so far) in the literary fiction. superbly told tale of an indian driver, balram halwai. as the winner of the booker prize 2008, this book clearly shows it deserves every single praise it has received.

basically, this whole book, is a letter to a chinese premier, wen jiabao. having known that he would be visiting India, balram halwai, writes a letter to him. explaining the corruptions in India. calling himself a self-made entrepeneur, he tells his side of story, where he grew up, his job (driver), the murder he had committed, and how (the heck) he managed to twiddle his way out of the crime.

this book surprised me a lot. seriously, i actually bought this book for a friend of mine, but i started flipping through the front few pages. the reviews for this book was three pages full and they were (in my mind, at that time) quite exaggerated (now i know they were the truth). yes, as you have guessed it, i was curious to know the reason for this book to be a favourite of the critics. i was shocked by the plot and everything in the book. (i kept the book and gave another book i already had)

you would not believe it, (i don't really care whether you do or not), i finished this book in three days time. very, very satisfied with it. i kept laughing like a mad fool at some parts (seriously, this book is funny). the language is amazing. the sentence structure, the comparisons, the WORDS, oh my gosh. they were all so perfect.

aravind adiga (yes, this amazing writer has half of my name(oooo, i am so proud) ), is my new favourite in the literary scene.

i am currently reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult, trying hard not to finish it very fast (yes, i am quite a fast reader), letting each sentence to seep into my soul (muahahahahahahaha). i am at page 270,and so far i am LOVING it.

the kiTE ruNNEr..bY kHaleed hOSseiNi..!!

(i read this book about 8 months ago....and this review was posted on my other blog, at that time) THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ IN YEARS.The author has this unique style of blending suspense, thriller, romance and a whole lot of other stuff into one very VERY VERY interesting book.

Its about two friends Amir and Hassan. As youngsters they have their ups and downs. At one point something happens to Hassan (i am not going to tell you guys, you should read the book for this part of the story, trust me , you will never expect this coming your way) and this 'something' makes them go on different paths of life. Hassan follows his father to a different part of the country while later in the story Amir will follow his father to a different COUNTRY. Amir finds love in this new place and gets married there. As he was getting comfortable with his life, there was still a discontentment within himself. He hasn't seen Hassan since both of them were about 12 years old. One day, Amir receives a call from a familiar voice (don't worry, its not Hassan) but this VOICE gives information to Amir about Hassan. For the rest of the story you guys have to read this beautifully written novel by yourself. seriously it melts hearts.

Khaled manages to pull all the strings of the cloth that barricades us from seeing the true world and the cruelty that happens all around it. (wow, damn serious, isn't it?). this book will definitely give you the satisfaction of reading. the language is almost like Dickens' ( this author has a very big impact on me....i see his style of writing in quite a number of books).

anyways, i loved this book and i hoped you guys (and girls, of course) will go out and get this book. seriously it's worth it. and yeah, it is really really good.
